In Memory of Dr. Mark Fromer: 1958-2025

MDF
We are saddened to share the passing of Dr. Mark Fromer, Medical Director and Founder of Fromer Eye Centers.
For more than 40 years, Dr. Fromer devoted his career to delivering high-quality, accessible eye care across New York City, reaching roughly one in four New Yorkers through practices in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Westchester. To advance his mission of equitable care, he established the first eye-surgery center in the Bronx, bringing advanced ophthalmic services to a historically underserved community. Dr. Fromer also served as Eye Surgeon Director for the New York Rangers and the World Oyama Karate Organization, and he was an honorary Police Surgeon for the New York City Police Department.

Dr. Fromer earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received his M.D. from Rutgers Medical School (UMDNJ). He completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital as well as a vitreoretinal fellowship in trauma and diabetic eye care at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital.

Beyond his passion for building Fromer Eye Centers, Dr. Fromer was an accomplished tennis player and had lifelong interests in nature, animals, music, martial arts, and physical fitness. He was known for his steady good humor, positivity, and his open and loving heart, which he shared with family, friends, and patients alike, love that was returned to him many times over.

He will be missed for his warmth and boundless energy.
